Why is this? It is because it excites him to feel he is exciting you! It has been said that people typically fall into one of three sensory categories: visual, auditory, kinestetic. That is, seeing, hearing, or feeling. Many assume that guys tend to be visual and gals tend to be kinestetic, but it is not a hard and fast rule. Maybe the boyfriend is auditory. Or, maybe there is enough feeling and seeing going on, and hearing it would just be icing on the cake!
Then again, maybe there are some insecurities and he is not sure that you are really “into it”. Then, also, there is the fetish angle… but, this takes us back to the excitement again. A fetish is just something that basically excites a person to extremes regardless of other things going on (usually).
Anyway, if you WANT to moan during intimacy, here are a couple of suggestions… First, let yourself go with the arousal, don’t be uptight or blocking it. Second, work with your boyfriend to discover, perhaps previously unknown, spots of excitement. For example, the spot where your neck goes into your rib cage tends to be sensitive. Or, a spot behind the jaw just under the ear.
Work with your boyfriend, guiding him to try potential spots on your body. And, when he hits one… let your excitement show! With the slightest inclination to moan… let it go!
